The former head of H.I.G.’s private equity team in Europe Paul Canning has teamed up with Alex White, previously the head of private equity at BDO, to form Treun Capital, Companies House filings show.

The firm, named after the gaelic word for strong or gallant, will invest in companies seeking equity investment of less than £10m and aim to add value by leveraging the extensive contact books of its two founders. There are still no details of the firm’s funding plans.

Canning has more than 20 years of private equity experience, making his name in the industry with Gresham Private Equity before launching US-based firm H.I.G’s nascent European private equity business in 2007, where he stayed for just under 10 years before departing in 2016.

White is veteran private equity adviser, heading the private equity business at professional services firm BDO, where he worked for almost 20 years. More recently he has headed the European business of Equiteq, a niche M&A consultancy, and held various board and private equity advisory roles.

Treun is the latest house to come into the UK market at what has been a vibrant time for new firm launches. Apiary Capital, launched by former Bowmark dealmaker Mark Salter, and support services specialist Aliter, are some of the new houses to gain traction.
