Bridges Ventures, the social investment firm, has expanded its team for the second time this year with the appointment of Alistair Tillen.
Tillen joins Bridges as an investment director and will focus on identifying new investments in growing UK B2B and consumer companies. He will work across the major investment themes of the Bridges Venture Funds: underserved areas, environment, education and skills, and health and well-being.
Before joining the firm, Tillen was co-founder and chief executive of Simply Switch, one of Bridges’ earliest investments. The online and call centre-based price comparison and switching service, designed to help people save money on household bills, was sold by Bridges in 2008, generating a 22x return for the firm and its investors.
Tillen currently chairs two other Bridges portfolio companies: School Stickers and Halo Insurance Services. The former manufactures and distributes customised motivational stickers and postcards for primary and secondary schools. Halo, meanwhile, is an online insurance broker providing a cheaper alternative to insurance excess waivers offered at car rental desks worldwide.
