Industrifonden has invested SKr25m (€5.4m) in a SKr50m capital expansion for Swedish pharmaceutical company Aprea.
Aprea’s existing backers Karolinska Development, Östersjöstiftelsen and Praktikerinvest have also reinvested.
Aprea is developing a new method of combating cancer. The most serious and difficult-to-treat forms of cancer are caused by the failure of the body’s immune system to function effectively. Aprea is developing a drug – which has been tested on animals with good results – that will restore the functioning of a protein that protects the body against cancer.
Aprea plans to launch clinical studies on humans within one year.
The company, which is based at the Karolinska Institute science park, was founded in 2003.
