General Atlantic has appointed John Bernstein as managing director in its London office.
Bernstein joins from Advent International, which he joined as partner in 1995. He has led or co-led investments in 14 companies, including, MACH, Aircom International, EUnet International, Jazztel and Tertio.
Prior to Advent, Bernstein was a partner at Intermatrix, a management and strategy consulting firm.
From 1984 to 1989, he specialised in capital markets and mergers and acquisitions in the London and Tokyo offices of Hambros Bank.
“John has an excellent track record investing in growth companies in the technology and communications industries,” said General Atlantic chief executive William Ford.
“This expertise and his desire to focus his efforts on growth-orientated investing and growth buyouts fits well with our global strategy.”
