Montagu Private Equity is reportedly set to buy the postgraduate crammer College of Law.
The private college, which has degree-awarding powers, has been on the block since September 2011. News of the deal, which has not completed, was broken by EducationInvestor.
The College of Law received its royal charter in 1975 and became the first independent institution to be granted degree-awarding powers in 2006. The sale would reposition the company, which is currently a charity, as a for-profit institution. The business attracted interest from a number of other private equity firms such as Providence Private Equity and trade buyers such as Pearson.
Montagu declined to comment.
